The Search for Gallifrey by Bari Marcus Anthony
SCENE III
The Search for Gallifrey
"Doctor Who! Wait up will you?" Ezzy struggles through the entangled forest. She can barely make out Dr. Who as he crashes fearlessly into the darkness of massive cedar ferns.
"My dear gods Karen!" Ezzy is outraged," Here I am, gods no where! On a stupid little planet called..." She looks around, puzzled, " Now where in the hell did he go?"
Doctor Who materializes behind Ezzy, catching her off guard. She looses her footing, tripping over a dead branch, crashing to the forest floor.
"Oh...sorry Ezzy," Doctor Who says, grinning like a crazy man, reaches out his hand,"But you know, as I've always said to my previous colleagues, there's something you'd better understand about me 'cause it's important, and one day your life may depend on it: I am definitely a mad man in a box!"
Ezzy takes the doctor's hand.
Red-faced with embarrassment, she removes twigs from her hair, then madly brushes the red desert soil off her uniform. She can't help but blush, after all, she's suppose to be one of Queen Isis's top Emperor Guards.
Dr. Who tries his best not to chuckle at her expense,"Do what I do Ezzy. Hold tight and pretend it was all planned."
"Yeah, sure doctor," Ezzy says reluctantly," What ever you say. But for future reference, don't sneak up on me like that, I may shoot you by mistake."
The doctor clambers on top of an old majestic fallen cedar tree. He takes a sliver of cedar, sticking it to the corner of his mouth," Ah good. Have you ever tasted a cedar pick before Ezzy?"
Dr. Who seems oblivious to anything Ezzy had said, making her scream bloody murder," What the hell doctor?! Have you heard anything I said since we've been here?"
The doctor frowns with concern," Of course I have Ezzy. I'm just so delighted TARDIS has found Gallifrey sister planet, Taiga. Please excuse me for not attending to your ego Ezzy."
"Oh yes. Of course...wait a minute, Ezzy is flustered by the doctors lack of encouragement," Did you say...my ego doctor!"
Doctor Who laughs out loud.
Ezzy is not amused. In fact she's becoming down right agitated by this Time Lord," Oh. Go ahead doctor, make fun of me now!"
"Oh please Ezzy, don't misunderstand me," the doctor chuckles," It's just that you're so comical sometimes. You remind me of my old companion Antimony, he was..."
"And who exactly was he doctor?" Ezzy doesn't really care if she interrupts.
"Another good question," the doctor pauses,"...may I call you Elizabeth? It's much more you my dear."
Ezzy's confused by his incoherently babble," I guess, but..."
"Yes. Elizabeth it is then," Doctor Who says while examining a baby fern, hanging on to dear life, along side the massive old cedar trunk.
"Doctor?" Ezzy questions.
"Oh yes my dear Elizabeth... Antimony was a dear friend of mine, well actually you could say he was an android I had constructed myself," the doctor's face quickly saddened," You see Elizabeth...we were battling against Time Lord General Tannis, when one day the General destroyed my dear friend."
Doctor Who pauses in a deep silence, starring blankly into the forest.
Ezzy realizes then how lonely Doctor Who must be, she comforts him," I see. I understand doctor...I really do understand. I know how it feels to loose someone you love. Doctor...can it be ?"
Dr. Who springs back in a wild gesture,"Well, you know. That was then. And now is now. But you know what was so funny about my dear friend Antimony?"
"No. What doctor?" Ezzy says quietly.
"Antimony would think Allosauruses still roamed the Earth," the doctor snickers delightfully," It brings back good memories. Good memories indeed."
Ezzy nods respectably," I'm sure it does doctor. I'm sure it does." She quickly changes the subject," So doctor...do you think you can tell me why we are here?"
Doctor Who jumps off the old cedar," Well. It's not why we are here, is it Elizabeth? It's Who's here."
"What do you mean doctor?" Ezzy is even more puzzled then before. She thinks to herself," All these puzzling words...the doctor is a crazy sort...indeed, a mad man in a box."
Doctor Who smiles," This is who I am, right here, right now, all right Elizabeth? All that counts is here and now, and this is me!" He pauses," By the way, I can hear your thoughts."
Ezzy shakes her head," That figures! What do you mean there's someone here we're going to meet ? AND...doctor...if this is the sister planet of your homeworld Gallifrey...does that mean Gallifrey is somewhere in this solar system?"
"You know exactly what questions to ask Elizabeth, I'm impressed!" Doctor Who smiles, pointing into nowhere land," Yes to your first question. We are here to meet someone. And to your second question. No. I'm afraid my homeworld Gallifrey is locked away in a distant galaxy somewhere."
"Ok doctor," Ezzy twists her lips trying to understand it all," So. Let me get this straight. We are going to meet someone. So. Who exactly are we going to meet doctor?"
"That question Elizabeth, is going to be answered very soon, but first we must be off before it becomes dark," the doctor springs into action.
"Why doctor? What happens when it gets dark?" Ezzy realizes a question just leads into another annoying question. The doctor is on the move," Geez Doctor. Wait up for me!"
The doctor stops suddenly, looks into Ezzy's eyes," This is just one corner...of one country, in one continent, on one planet that's a corner of a galaxy that's a corner of a universe that is forever growing and shrinking and creating and destroying and never remaining the same for a single millisecond. And there is so much, so much to see."
"Whatever doctor," Ezzy rolls her eyes," Shouldn't we be on then, before it gets dark?"
Doctor Who nods," Quite right my dear Elizabeth, quite right!"
They both crash through the depth of the coniferous Redwoods, hasting their steps.

"The only way to show you the problem is by taking you to the problem" Quote by Dr. Who.
SCENE II
The TRADIS hums like a small electric toy, seemingly heading
in an erratic direction. It meticulously
slipstreams through the universe on its calculated course.
“I’m so pleased the Queen decided to pick YOU Ezzy, “Doctor
Who has that determined grin.
Ezzy can’t believe she agreed to come along for this charade.
She is kicking herself thinking how Karen sweet talked her into going.
“Yes Doctor,” Ezzy says a little annoyed,” I’m sure she had
good intentions and I figure...”
“Yes, “The doctor eagerly interrupts, really paying no
attention,” I’m very sure she did HAVE good intentions. After all she loves you.
Wouldn't that be a correct statement?”
“Yeah sure, I suppose doctor,” Ezzy signs.
They just left and already she’s feels her chest ache with that
sinking feeling as if someone her ripped her heart out. The pity of her stomach feels oozy. Yes. The doctor is spot on. Damn him anyway!
Ezzy has strong feelings for Karen. Of course she does,
trying to reason it with logic. What
they been through in the last ten years. Of course they’re close to each other.
Ezzy finds it strange how this Dr. Who seems to know everything
about them after his brief visit. She
scowls at the very idea. Damn it Karen! It true she thought, red heads do have
quick tempers.
Ezzy tries to control her temper, but somehow it shows in
the tone of her voice.
She quizzes sternly,” Tell me doctor. How the hell is it you
know so much about us? “
Oh damn, Ezzy bites her lip. That was way too obvious, she
tries to retract her statement,” I mean, how does someone from another timeline
know more about us then we do?”
“That’s quite simple really. I’m the doctor,” Dr. Who spells
it out too busy at the controls. He looks up briefly and realizes Ezzy is not
doing so well.
“Oh, Ezzy, it’s ok. I totally understand how you feel,”
Doctor Who feels her tension. He tries
to comfort her, “I can feel your emotion. You are a strong woman, full of
determination and vigor.”
Suddenly the craft shudders with a violent twist. Ezzy
instinctively hangs on tight to the console perched in the middle of this
strange funny craft. She can see the doctor madly flipping switches and
slamming down controls with easy.
The doctor yells over the thundering noise of the living TARDIS,”
I’ll have to get back to you on that Ezzy. It seems we have reached our
destination!”
The craft whirls around ferociously but at the same time lands
gently with the ease of a woman’s soft touch. As quick as it came, the TARDIS was silent once
again.
Doctor Who bows his head on the console, giving it a soft
kiss,” Thank you my dear TARDIS. What would I do without you?”
He looks up and notices Ezzy giving him the strangest of
looks, embarrassed Dr Who says,” Oh. Don’t take heed to my strange antics Ezzy.
It’s just this craft and I have been through a lot together.”
Ezzy nods with some concern,” I see doctor. I see.”
“No. I don’t believe you do,” the doctor says softly. He
walks around beaming with pride, softly touching the ribs of the craft with his
finger tips. He checks the timeline and quickly changes the subject, “Timeline:
2025”
Ezzy slowly shakes her head, thinking how eccentric this
doctor really is. She says to herself,” Oh
Karen, what did you get me into”.
Doctor Who points his
way to the door of the craft,” Come, this way. Ladies first you know?”
Ezzy follows past Dr. Who, stops and looks at him,” Really? I,
mean, you can’t seriously think that. Do
you doctor?”
The doctor pauses, for what seems like a long minute, then
says,” Ah. I guess you’re right Ezzy. Shall I go first?”
“Ah. NO doctor!”Ezzy turns and forces the door open, not
realizing her own strength.
The burning light from the sun itches into her
eyes, blinding her as she stumbles out. Ezzy blinks trying her best to get rid
of those annoying black spots before her eyes.
The doctor catches her, “Wait a minute until you regain your
balance. There happens to be a binary star formation on this planet. That’s why
daylight is so intense here.”
Ezzy shades her eyes feeling pretty stupid perching her
weight onto the doctor’s shoulder, “I thought where we were going has only one
sun doctor? Where are we exactly?”
“Ah, good question Ezzy, “the doctor admires the splendid scenery
in the distance. Lush coniferous green trees as far as the eye can see.
Ezzy squints, her eyes makes out the beautiful landscape
before her. She looks at the doctor,” Well doctor? Where are we?”
Dr. Who grins with bride, " This my dear Ezzy is called Planet Taiga, sister planet to my homeworld Gallifrey. A much smaller planet, but it isn't it beautiful? Take a deep breath. Can you smell that cedar?"
Dr. Who grins with bride, " This my dear Ezzy is called Planet Taiga, sister planet to my homeworld Gallifrey. A much smaller planet, but it isn't it beautiful? Take a deep breath. Can you smell that cedar?"
The doctor takes off merrily into the deep forest, quickly
disappearing. You can barely hear him say," "The only way to show you the problem is by taking you to the problem."
“Oh how wonderful!” Ezzy thinks out loud,” What are you
getting us into doctor? Oh great, now I'm talking to myself."
Her military
instincts kick in as she pulls out her sidearm as a precaution,” Better not
take any chances.”
Ezzy follows the doctor into the maze of greenery.

SCENE I :
The unknown capsule ripped through the void of space spiraling earth bound. Violently the craft entered the earth’s atmosphere racing towards its inevitable crash into the Mediterranean Sea.
The gigantic defense tracker quickly monitored its projection alerting an Emperor Guard half asleep. Screaming alarms catches the soldier off guard making him lose his balancing perch, crashing to the floor. He quickly scrambles off the cold granite slab, reaching for his com-set laying on top of the console.
Fixed back on to his
head he blares out his attentions,” Oh dear my lords. Commander! An unknown craft just
crashed along our coastal seaboard."
He listens intently for a response; nothing but background
static.
Finally, what seems like hours a weak monotone voice comes
over his headphone,” Alex speaking. State your emergency.”
The Emperor Guard straights up as if in the presence of the
Lords Our Gods, ready to do his duty,” It’s Lieutenant Zarita. I have pressing
news for our Lord, our Queen Isis.”
Alex,” One moment Lieutenant,” there’s a brief silence,
then,” Lieutenant.”
“Yes, “Lieutenant Zarita responds, puzzled by Alex’s tone.
“This had better be an emergency, for your own sake
Lieutenant,” Alex’s eerie monotone voice quickens the Lieutenant’s heart. He reputes
nervously,” Yes...Yes it is!”
“One moment please,” Alex replies without emotion.
Lieutenant Zarita waits, impatiently tapping his feet. Minutes seem like hours and then, a stern female voice shakes the Lieutenant back to attention.
“My dear Queen Isis, it’s an honour to be within your
presence,” Lieutenant Zarita relishes up his best performance.
“Yes. Yes Lieutenant,” Karen is not impressed with the
obvious sucking-up. Sometimes her new title as Queen Isis seems boorish at
times. She thinks to herself, “ Being Queen can be annoying."
Karen is beginning to lose patients,” Lieutenant! What is
the meaning of this? Tell me your emergency!”
The quivering voice on the other end is very apparent,” Yes my Queen! It appears we have an unannounced visitor my dear Queen, and...”
Karen is becoming annoyed by the minute,” And what!”
“Please forgive me my Queen, but it seems the craft has
crashed into the sea.”
“I see, “Karen is beginning to wonder if this lieutenant can
have a brain at all. She tries her best to remain calm. It’s like talking to a
child,” Lieutenant? Is the craft retrievable? Did you happen to send out any Emperor
Guards to check shoreline? Or how about dispatching a cruiser?"
Karen’s hears nothing but heavy breathing; she retaliates,”
Well?”
“My Queen, I haven’t as of yet,” the nervous Lieutenant
finally speaks,” Would you like me to do this my Queen?”
Karen bites her tongue, takes a deep sign,” Yes Lieutenant, immediately!”
“By your command My Queen!,” Lieutenant Zarita says
with some determination.
Karen removes the com-set and places it beside her, she gets out from under the covers of her bed. Alex immediately
covers Karen with her Egyptian robe. The Commander from Sirus 5 walks out to her elaborate balcony
overlooking her dynasty. The early morning is cold, typical for any desert.
She covers herself even more, her fingers playfully tinkering with her black sapphire diamond. Twirling the cold medallion she realized her finger tips are actually numb.
Holding the sapphire brings back so many memories, her eyes filled with tears contemplating the past 10 years.
Holding the sapphire brings back so many memories, her eyes filled with tears contemplating the past 10 years.
Alex comes back offering Karen a herbal tea to help ward off
the cold. Karen snaps out of her trance, nods and takes a sip. She signs with relief. Her hands welcome the radiating warmth from the glass cup.
She shudders,” Fall already Alex. Not sure if I’ll ever get use to these short seasons, never mind the year.”
She shudders,” Fall already Alex. Not sure if I’ll ever get use to these short seasons, never mind the year.”
Alex nods,” Yes My Queen, a year on Sirus 5 was twice as long as
Earth. Should we be off?"
Karen nods," Get my cruiser ready, will you Alex?"
"It's ready Commander" Alex looks at Karen with almost a sarcastic tone, just enough for an android.
"Of course it is," Karen smiles," Well then, lets get going, shall we?"
Karen heads out of her chambers already dressed in her armor. She leads the way immediately followed by a convoy of armed androids. She quickly heads towards the massive foyer of her newly constructed Pyramid. More Emperor Guards greet her along with her long time friend Ezzy.
"Good Morning Karen," Ezzy speaks out, joining the fast moving group, " What's the emergency Commander?"
"Apparently we have a visitor," Karen greets Ezzy, " It appears it's unannounced."
Leading out the main foyer Karen is greeted with her specialized cruiser, already hovering in the early morning sun.
"Never seems to be a dull moment," as Ezzy helps Karen aboard.
"No. Doesn't seems to be." Karen smiles," Lets go see who's our new visitor."
Ezzy smiles back," Just like old times my Queen"
The Cruiser lifts off seamlessly into the morning sun. It's not long before the crew settles down along the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. Bustling with activity the Emperor Guards with Lieutenant Zarita shouting out orders. He see's the Queens cruiser, stops immediately and rushes over.
Karen steps out of the cruiser with her convoy of guards. Lieutenant Zarita greets his Queen, bowing nervously," My Lord Almighty Queen Isis, I'm so glad you came in such short notice."
"Yes...Yes. Get up," Karen says, looking determined, " What have you come up with Lieutenant?"
"Yes my Queen. As you can see in the distance, we have just recovered the strange looking craft," the Lieutenant boasts eagerly.
Just off the shores a Sirian craft is towing what seems like a rectangular blue box. Karen looks intently shading her eyes from the morning sun.
It wasn't long before the craft gently landed the long rectangular blue box on the desert sand. A barrage of guards surrounded it in tight formation.
Karen and Ezzy watched in the distance. Nothing moved. Suddenly the small frame door opened. A strange young fellow wearing a black leather jacket appeared, a little wearily. Karen and Ezzy look at each other.
"Well. Isn't that strange,"Karen says," What do you make of it Ezzy?"
"Not too sure, but I figure it's obviously an male humanoid of some sort. Wonder what brings him here?" Ezzy begins to head over for a closer look, " You better stay here Karen. You just never know."
Karen nods as Ezzy heads off towards the new visitor. She can see Ezzy and the new stranger talking, but can't make out whats being said. The stranger is waving his hands, while Ezzy finally points towards Karen. The accession of guards carefully follow Ezzy and the man heading towards Karen.
Karen is well protected by her own Emperor Guards, knowing all to well, she's not really in any danger. The closer they get, Karen notices the young man is thin and slightly tall.
The man greets Karen with enthusiasm, holding out his hand and giving a vibrant bow," Oh this is just simply marvelous. It's a pleasure to meet you Queen of Isis. Would you happen to be the 1st Dynasty?"
Karen is amazed by the amount of energy in his step, never mind that he likes to talk a mile a minute, she begins," It's my pleasure Sir. What's your name?"
" My name. Oh. Everyone calls me the doctor," Doctor Who smiles, " I'm Doctor Who."
" What brings you here doctor?" Karen begins to quiz the doctor, knowing all to well there must be some kind of purpose, " And more importantly, how did you know who I am and...where did you come from?"
"Now those are really good questions my dear Queen Isis. I originate from my homeworld Gallifrey from the constellation of Kasterborous. Galactic coordinates are ten-zero-eleven-zero-zero by zero-two from galactic zero centre. Basically it is located in a binary star system."
Karen is impressed, " I see doctor. I've never had the opportunity to visit, but I hear it was in turmoil."
"Why. That's correct my Queen Isis. How did you know?" Dr. Who admires Karen's intellect.
"We originate from planet Sirus 5 of the Sirius Cluster. Our King Osiris told us stories of this place in time," Karen is intrigue by this young man," If I understand it correctly, you're a Time Lord."
"I'm sorry, but did you say you're from Sirus 5?" quizzes Dr. Who," And yes. That's correct. I'm a Time Lord and ..."
"And according to history you're are the last of it's kind," Karen interrupts," So. Tell me doctor. What brings you here?"
"Oh good. A woman decisive and to the point. Never mind the small talk. Let's get right to business shall we," Doctor Who rattles on.
Karen is a little surprised," Yes. Lets. Tell me then. What's your purpose here?"
"It's all relative, really," Dr. Who carries on," I'm actually here to tell you I just came from the future..."
Karen interrupts," The future. Really..."
"Yes. Really, Doctor Who speaks back, " I must warn you of an error in your genetic calculations. It appears your genetic DNA for Apeman has lead to a drastic fault in it's own DNA."
"Is that so," Karen is amused," What kind of error have you noticed doctor?"
"Your DNA creation has distorted a missing gene," Dr. Who quickens, " To put things in perspective and to the point, You must change back what you've created. You are destroying the very people I love."
"Why doctor? What has happened in the future?" Karen quizzes for more information.
"They have become displacement. You can say they're destroying themselves. You must trust your instincts in this matter. In the very least you must fix the problem you've created," Dr. Who says with even more conviction.
Ezzy interrupts," You mean you want us to trust these Apes? Are you kidding doctor!
Karen puts up her hand to Ezzy, frowning for the interruption. Ezzy rolls her eyes in dismay.
Karen looked sternly at him," What problem doctor? We haven't destroyed this race. We've improved them. Human Beings are just fine. They may need our constant guidance. Just like any other child. But there really isn't any need to be concerned. There isn't any danger. And besides, if anything the future should make them stronger and wiser. Wouldn't you say doctor?"
Doctor Who shakes his head, "No. In all respect, but that isn't the case at all. Mankind as a whole has become increasingly dis-respondent. Their civilization is crashing all around them. They have given up entirely. It's quite sad really. We must do something here and now."
Karen takes the doctors arm gently, " Let's talk this over breakfast doctor. I'm hungry. Aren't you?"
"Yes. As a matter of fact I am. That would be wonderful my Queen." Dr. Who smiles.
"Come. Let's eat and talk of this some more,"Karen gives a friendly smile, but in the back of her mind she has other intentions," You can tell me more about this fascinating story about the future..."
